New Bassike Store

September 2nd, 2010 // 0

The leafy Sydney suburb of Paddington is suddenly all abuzz. First up Jac+Jack announce their men’s floor expansion and now the fluorescent-vested tradies are readying a Glenmore Road plot for one of Buck’s favourite brands Bassike as they decamp their cool tees and Japanese denim into their second standalone store. (Their home turf of Avalon on the northern beaches plays host to their flagship gaff.)

The best of what we’ve seen from their High Summer 2010 collection are the Miami Vice-inspired musk (pink is a scary word for Aussie blokes) chinos and equally Florida-esque pastel-coloured shorts.

If you’re not brave enough for a candy colour palette then you can never go far wrong with one of their slouchy tees or the double denim they’re such an advocate of.

Man Up

Jac+Jack, those purveyors of fine knitwear and luxurious cottons, have recently added a second level to their Paddington store. Buck’s regularly been lured into their not-long-opened retail space on William Street, but is pleased that Jac+Jack’s linen tees and must-have chambray pants now have a space they can call their own – well, almost.

The Jac+Jack men’s collection will be sharing the second level with (no doubt equally tonal) clobber for the house … cashmere throws, organic cotton towels and imported Matteo linen et al. But we’re not complaining, when it comes to a bang on basics, there’s no homegrown brand that does it better.

Deus Ex Machina just upped the ante big style. Not content with dramatically improving the style in which we two-wheel ourselves around Australia with their envy-inducing motorcycles and bikes, they’ve now added custom surfboards to the checklist of things they do that we want.

This rather nice 6-foot rounded pin tail board is given the moniker Calypso’s Shameful Trident and is shaped by Bali boy Luke Studer with Robert Moore on visuals.

Collaborations come in all shapes and sizes these days, but none better than the boys wet dream that hit Buck HQ on Friday afternoon. Twenty-four cold brown bottles and a cruiserboard to celebrate skate brand Globe’s latest special project – a colab with Victoria Bitter.

This is a coming together more Australian than chicken shops and Coon slices and primed for the ever-nearing Aussie summer. As well as subtle VB graphics, the underside of the cruiserboard also comes with a built-in Globe-branded bottle opener so you can enjoy ‘The Best Cold Beer’ on the move. Awesome. The Globe x VB special project also includes pool shorts, boardies and a skate shoe.
